Schmitt, Carl A. Thursday, March 27, 2003 Schmitt, Carl A. Born to Eternal Life March 25, 2003. Age 91 years. Loving husband of the late Kathryn (Nee Sturm) for over 60 years. Devoted father of Chris (friend Barbara Grainger), Marie, Carol (Wayne) Johnson, and Judy (Steve) Krings. “Big D” of Steven, Jamie (Valerie), Chad (Lissa), Diana, Julie, Mary Kay, Jack, and Tom. Father-in-law of the late Sharon. Dear brother of the late Ceil (Tony) Finke, Frances (John) Mueller, Lauretta, John (Edna), and Ted. Brother-in-law of the late Charles (Helen) Sturm. Further survived by other relatives and friends. Visitation Thurs., March 27 at St. James Catholic Church, W220 N6588 Town Line Rd., Menomonee Falls, from 9:30 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Private Burial Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials to St. Mary’s Hospice, 2350 N. Lake Dr., Milwaukee, WI 53211 appreciated. Carl was Executive Vice-President and Director of Matex, Inc. and Matrix Corp. He was former Vice- Chairman of the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, of which he was a member from 1952 to 1975. After graduating from Marquette University Law School in 1934, he started working at Miller Brewing Co. He was secretary and general manager of a number of Miller companies until 1966, when he joined Exton Realty Company, the predecessor of Matex, Inc. Mr. Schmitt belonged to various social, professional, and community organizations, including Milwaukee Athletic Club, Marquette University Campus Planning Committee, Milwaukee Press Club, Wisconsin Bar Association, and Milwaukee Board of Realtors. He served as Director of the Milwaukee Catholic Home, and was a member of Mother of Good Council Congregation.
