Exactly What Is Microsoft Patenting?
Mary Jo Foley
Microsoft is applying for a number of patents around its application-programming interface and, specifically, its .Net-related technologies. One of these, a patent for an “application program interface for (a) network software platform” was made public last week. Microsoft will say only that this particular patent is for “an API set that is used in .Net for distributed computing messages/Web services,” according to a company spokesman. “It patents some details of one possible implementation of a Web service,” not any Web services protocols. Hmmmm.
