Family abuse victims get access to phones
The Wireless Foundation is offering cell phones without charge to victims of domestic violence.
The foundation also takes donations of used cell phones, which Motorola refurbishes. The “Call to Protect” phones are coded to dial only 911.
The phones give victims immediate access to police for assistance. There are cases of stalkers pursuing victims on the streets and others involving cut telephone lines.
The Call to Protect program has been in existence since 1996.
