California: A FEW DEALERS PROVIDE MOST OF CRIME GUNS
Ten of the state’s 4,000 licensed gun dealers sold a disproportionate number of weapons that were used in crimes committed by youths, said researchers at the University of California-Davis.
The study found that the 10 dealers were the source of guns used in 16 percent of youth crimes in 1999.
The study also concluded that youths between the ages of 18 and 20 represented the highest percentage of persons age 25 and under linked to guns used in crimes.
Dr. Garen J. Wintemute led the study, “Life Cycle of Crime Guns.”
