TV actor Merlin Santana shot to death in L.A – Census

A woman was arrested in the shooting death of TV and film actor Merlin Santana, who was shot while sitting in a parked car in South Los Angeles, authorities said.

Police did not release the woman’s identity or any other details

Santana, 26, was best known for his recurring role on “The Steve Harvey Show,” as Romeo Santana. He also had a role in Eddie Murphy’s movie Showtime.

He was sitting in the passenger seat shortly after 2:30 a.m. when at least one person approached the car and fired, police said. The driver escaped injury, drove off and flagged down police. Paramedics responded, but Santana was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

One of his earliest roles was as Stanley, the admirer of Rudy Huxtable on “The Cosby Show.”

“This kid is not a gangster,” said Harvey during a KCBS-TV interview in L.A. “Whatever the situation was, he didn’t deserve to die. Why is it that young people today feel they have no alternative but to murder somebody?”
