Ex-GSDF officer indicted on amphetamine-possession charge

The Hakodate District Public Prosecutors Office on Thursday indicted a 28-year-old former sergeant of the Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) on a charge of possessing a stimulant drug.

Tetsuya Shigeta, former member of a GSDF infantry regiment, was caught by GSDF police squad with several milligrams of amphetamine in his wallet on April 26 at his station in Hakodate, Hokkaido.

Shigeta, who was discharged from the GSDF as of May 1, was reportedly in charge of ammunition distribution for his regiment.

On May 11, Shigeta was also sent to prosecutors on suspicion he violated the Cannabis Control Law, after about 15 grams of cannabis, with an estimated street value of 60,000 yen, were discovered in his bag.
