Eager to Teach – Teach for Georgia program

Eager to Teach – Teach for Georgia program – Brief Article

More than 2,000 aspiring teachers poured into an Atlanta-area university recently, eager to apply for a special teacher-preparation program created to transform lawyers, business executives, and stay-at-home moms into certified educators. The standing-room-only crowd was double what officials had expected and was inspiring for a state that, like much of the country, is wondering how to fill the empty desks that have been and will be vacated by an ever-growing number of retiring teachers. Out of the 2,300 applicants, only 120 will be selected for the prep program, called Teach for Georgia. The program is similar to hundreds of other teacher fellow programs around the nation, where applicants are trained, mentored, and then placed in elementary, middle, or high school classrooms.
