Easy as pie
Apple-picking season’s just around the corner, and kids can harvest a bushel of good will within your church community with this fresh-pie outreach.
Have kids gather on a Saturday to bake apple pies as gifts. Recruit adult volunteers to make pie dough, or buy ready-made dough. Have kids roll out the crusts, peel and slice the apples, and assemble the pies.
As pies come out of the oven, send off carloads of kids with five or six pies each. Have the kids in each car sign a computer-generated card and deliver the pies to new people in the church, shut-ins, recent youth group visitors, or anyone who could use encouragement. When the deliveries are done, have kids regroup for a pie break of their own.
