Alberta, Canada lieutenant Governor and co-founder of Hole’s Greenhouses & Gardens Ltd. Lois Hole died Jan. 6. She and her husband Ted, who is deceased, started the operation as a roadside vegetable stand 35 years ago. The business is now owned by family members. Horace Hagedorn, founder of Miracle-Gro plant food, former executive and director emeritus of The Scotts Co., died Jan. 31 at the age of 95 at his home in Long Island, NY.

Hagedorn was the marketing and business genius behind the Miracle-Gro brand.

Frank B. Michell Jr. of the HF Michell Co. died Jan. 18. He was a second generation family member who ran the company, now located in King of Prussia, Pa., and a well-known member of the floriculture industry. Memorial donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Baltimore, MD 21201.
