Hunter: the Reckoning Redeemer

Hunter: the Reckoning Redeemer

Last year’s Hunter: The Reckoning is a fantasy-themed shoot-em-up that combines Gauntlet’s kill-everything gameplay with a Goth-flavored pen-and-paper RPG. This year’s Redeemer addresses most of the original game’s shortcomings with more and longer levels, flashier weapons, and nastier enemies. There’s a new stat system in which you boost specific attack skills with repeated use and a busty new character named Kaylie who joins the original game’s bizarre quartet of cop, biker, raver, and preacher. The best gameplay improvement beyond the addition of various unlockables is a control tweak that makes it easier to change the direction of combo attacks midstream. Also, the notably improved in-game camera shows off Redeemer’s souped-up visuals. Xbox Live support is limited to downloadable content, not the needed multiplayer action, but it’s great fun while it lasts.
