… is becoming a familiar refrain. The Advertising Council and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health are running a nationwide campaign to encourage first-time moms to breastfeed exclusively for at least six months. Researchers continue to find new benefits of mother’s milk, but studies also show that very few women nurse their babies that long, let alone for the entire first year of life, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.–M.J.H.
