Yuma hosts SEFO

The City of Yuma (Ariz.) Fire Department served as the host for the Society of Executive Fire Officers Annual Conference Oct. 17-19. The conference was attended by 60 of the nation’s leading fire executives and a number of partners.

The three-day conference attracted a number of “Headliners and Legends of Today’s Fire Services.” The chosen theme was “Safety, Risk Management and the Aftermath.”

Presenters at this year’s conference included: Jim Page, formerly of JEMS Publications; Ronny Coleman, Fire and Emergency Television Network president; Dennis Rubin, city administrator and public safety director of Dothan, Ala.; and Dennis Compton, former Mesa (Ariz.) fire chief.

Chuck Burkell presented the keynote opening address on the need to ensure successorship in the fire service, referring directly to the experiences of FDNY. The conference concluded with a keynote address by Ina Wintrich, Arizona State University public executive program chair.
