FDSOA seminar set

The 15th Annual Fire Department Safety Officers Apparatus Specifications and Vehicle Maintenance seminar opens in Orlando, Fla., on Jan. 19 with “Diesel Engines for the Future” as one of the lead-off topics.

There are unique changes for all 2003 engines, and speakers from Cummins and Detroit Diesel will be there to describe how it will affect fire truck design and operation.

Other topics will include spec writing advice, NFPA 1901 2003 changes, aerial testing, multiplexing, apparatus safety, driving issues and the responsibilities of purchasers before they write the specs.

For the first time, the seminar will have sessions on ambulances and Wildland interface units. Winding up the three-day program will be programs on the spec writers’ liability, changes in the new brake systems, correct alternator and battery selection and a mechanics panel.
