Nearly Euro 2 Billion Aid May Be Paid In Advance To Eu Olive Oil Producers

The European Commission adopted a Regulation on 9 October setting out production estimates for olive oil (and table olives) and the production aid that can be paid in advance for the 1999/2000 marketing year (a total of more than Euro 1.9 billion). Advance aid for olive oil production has been set at Euro 117.36/100 kg for Spain, France and Portugal; Euro 103.38/100 kg for Greece; and Euro 84.98/100 kg for Italy. According to data supplied by the individual Member States, olive oil output is expected to reach 704,526 tonnes for Spain, 700,000 tonnes for Italy, 430,000 tonnes for Greece, 46 278 tonnes for Portugal and 2,675 tonnes for France. Output forecasts for table olives, calculated in olive oil equivalents, amount to 49,974 tonnes for Spain, 11,000 for Greece, 713 for Portugal and 77 for France.
