U.S. INTERNATIONAL TRANSACTIONS
In the third quarter of 2000, the goods deficit rose to $115.4
billion, from $110.2 billion in the second quarter. The current
account deficit rose to $113.8 billion in the third quarter, from
$105.0 billion in the second quarter.

In the financial account, U.S. claims on foreigners reported by
U.S. banks increased $11.4 billion in the third quarter of 2000,
in contrast to a decrease of $18.3 billion in the second quarter.
U.S. liabilities to private foreigners reported by U.S. banks,
excluding Treasury securities, increased $14.0 billion in the third
quarter, following an increase of $46.9 billion in the second quarter.
