The power of Oprah

Deborah Turner-Lewis

We stand on the shoulders of giants (see “Oprah Headlines Bennett Fund-raising Event,” Nov. 16). What an honor to have her care enough to come and share her time and energy with the students of Bennett and the Triad Community. Anyone can write a check. But to give of your time and knowledge, it’s priceless.

I am intrigued by Oprah Winfrey, Maya Angelou and many other Black female advocates and their spirit of giving back to the community. I call them “change agents” for their exemplary and extraordinary work of building lives and communities in America and around the world. These leaders are shining examples of not only givers but gracious little angels to the many lives they have enriched. These gracious women are true role models for the world to emulate.
