Rick Mendoza, a longtime travel professional and 35-year resident of Palos Verdes Estates, was recently elected district governor of Rotary International District 5280.
Mendoza is the first Rotarian of Mexican heritage to lead one of the most diverse of Rotary International’s 530 districts worldwide, and also first in District 5280’s 92-year history. The district encompasses most of Los Angeles and is comprised of 46 clubs and 2,500 members.
Mendoza joined the Rotary Club of Redondo Beach in 1986 and has served on the board of directors since 1987, serving as clubpresident, treasurer and secretary. Recognized as “Rotarian of the Year” by his Rotary Club in 1989-1990, Mendoza was behind the effort to develop a sister Rotary Club relationship with La Paz, Baja California.
