Licence to spill, about Linux – Letters To The editor – Brief Article – Letter to the Editor
Paul Godin
Regarding your article on the battle of Linux user against SCO (see CC Sept. 5., p. 1): Like many, I have been following from the beginning the SCO complaints. I’m not one to worry about the IP challenge the Linux kernel and related utility’s faces.
I’m angry that a small, unprofitable and ill-managed company such as SCO is taking an approach that is hypocritical, evasive and full of half-truth comments in order to sell a licence that is not wanted or needed by users of the Linux product for both home or business.
Those that purchase such a licence will have difficulty getting their money back when SCO is defeated in court. More than likely the licence will contain clauses that protect SCO from reimbursing those that have purchased the licence out of fear of a court battle. The Linux community is a reliable and honest group of people achieving goals and objectives of providing a licence-free product for the benefit of all. It deserves our support and confidence.
