NB counsellors win 11.25% raise – General

FREDERICTON — The New Brunswick government and Local 1251 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, representing about 550 correctional officers, human service counsellors and custodians, signed a four-and-one-half year collective agreement.

The agreement covers employees working in eight different departments throughout government. Correctional officers at the Department of Public Safety make up more than half the membership of the local. Other groups include human service counsellors at Health and Wellness and at Family and Community Services and custodians at community colleges operated by Training and Employment Development.

The contract increases the hourly pay rate by an average of 2.5 per cent a year, totaling 11.25 per cent over four-and-one-half years and covers the period ending June 15, 2007.
