Movie’s ‘God’ has British phone too – News – about the film Bruce Almighty – Brief Article

The plague of people ringing the number God gives as his telephone number to a TV reporter played by Jim Carrey in the film Bruce Almighty has spread across the Atlantic.

The movie is set in Buffalo, New York, where this phone number apparently does not exist. But some U.S. homes had to deal with callers, and a radio station in Colorado was forced to set up a special answering service.

The number also belongs to a British caterer living in a Manchester suburb. Andy Green receives up to 70 phone calls daily and, reported the Daily Mirror, is being rung up by “every religious nutter in Manchester.” To lingering callers, he insists he is neither the Messiah nor God, though “most people ring off when they hear my voice,” he said. “They don’t expect God to have a Manchester accent.”–RNS
