How to Succeed in Business Without Being White. – book reviews
Frank M. Reid, III
By Earl G. Graves. Harper Business, 1997.
Earl G. Graves, founder, publisher and CEO of Black Enterprise magazine, is a living legend. His book is about much more than business. It is about principles of integrity, character, perseverance, discipline and organization that can help any institution or individual develop a sound strategy for economic development. The fact that economic development is one of the greatest needs of the Afro-American community heightens the importance of this book. Graves gives us insights that have worked for him and other people of color.
These insights, however, are not just about individual success, wealth and ownership. They are about a lifestyle of transformation that can reform and rebuild communities and nations. The book reaches its apex in the final chapter, “The Ten Greatest Challenges Facing Black America.” Pulling together the preceding principles and insights, Graves identifies possible solutions to key challenges facing black people. For those interested in the deliverance and development of the black community specifically and the American nation generally, this is required reading.
