Ollie J. Davis, a long-time member of ACEI, was named the “2003-2004 Elementary Teacher of the Year” for the Houston Independent School District (HISD). HISD is the largest public school system in Texas and the seventh largest in the United States, with more than 12,000 teachers and over 200,000 students. Ollie received a $5,000 cash award from Palais Royal, a $1,000 gift certificate from I.W. Marks Jewelers, a specially designed commemorative ring from Herff Jones Graduation Center, $500 from Quality Concession Foods, a $150 gift certificate from Lakeshore Learning Materials, plaques, and other gifts.

After teaching graduate and undergraduate education courses for 12 years at Prairie View A&M University, Ollie returned to HISD in 2001. She currently teaches Pre-kindergarten at Concord Elementary.
