GeoQuad Interactive Mapping Software
Humphries, Michael O
Unlike traditional mapping software that forces users to urchase specific state or regional CDs, Cabela’s and Maptrails’ GeoQUAD Interactive Mapping Software gives users access (via the Internet) to topographic maps, satellite imagery, aerial photography and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) maps.
Outdoorsmen can now utilize the resources of the Internet to customize maps and mapping information on their personal computers. Since maps are stored on a server, users to do not have to fill their hard drives with memory– draining maps and complicated downloads. Also, GeoQUAD is easily upgradable as new maps and data sources become available.
GeoQUAD offers four USGS quadrangles of the user’s choice (with more available for a nominal fee), with each quadrangle chosen featuring all four types of maps (where available). Using the tandem view mode, users can view any combination of the available maps side by side, and then customize them with private/public land boundaries, trails, water courses, GPS-interfaced waypoints and game management unit boundaries (in the western states). GeoQUAD costs $59.99.
