Inline Coating System – Brief Article
Heidelberg’s four-and five-color Speedmaster 52’s are now available with an inline coating system–a first for these two-up (14 x 20-inch) presses. The new design enhances the SM 52’s on-demand color capabilities by enabling it to print while applying an aqueous coating in a single pass at the rate of 15,000 sph.
The coating tower features a retractable configuration designed to improve productivity. With the push of a button, the unit’s two rollers and form cylinder can be raised 10 inches into a “parked” position. That gives press operators easy access to the coating plate and blanket between jobs, significantly facilitating faster makereadies. The coating unit can be taken out of the paper path to promote smoother sheetflow when running non-coated jobs.
