Initiatives to improve service include technology to capture information about a guest and their booking, thus offering a more personalized and streamlined service from the moment they make a reservation to check-out. Malmaison, Hotel du Vin

Luxury UK hotel chains, Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, are to be sold by owner Marylebone Warwick Balfour Group (MWB) for [pounds sterling]700m ($1.4bn) plus. In a statement MWB stressed that its decision was very much evolutionary: MWB intended to sell the hotel property assets this year but for the time being retain the operating business, in order to sell it separately by the end of 2008. A proposed [pounds sterling]495m deal between Vector Hospitality and MWB for the properties, failed last month and these were subsequently placed on the open market on July 2. There is a total of 19 hotels involved in the transaction, ten of which are Malmaison and the remaining nine Hotel du Vin. In addition, there are a further seven properties in the pipeline due to open between this year and next. Jul 17, 2007

Marriott International

JW Marriott to open in Kazakhstan. Marriott International is to bring its luxury brand, JW Marriott, to Kazakhstan next year with the opening of a 215-room hotel and 419-unit JW Marriott Residence properties in Almaty, under a management contract with Capital Tower Development. Situated in the center of the city, both the hotel and residential buildings form an integral part of a 309,800sq m development project, Esentai Park, on Al-Farabi Street. The hotel will occupy most of the upper half of a 37 stories Esentai Park Tower, which will also house 21,000sq m of prime office space, two penthouse apartments and parking. Jul 19, 2007
