Avis Unveils New GPS Device. Avis has unveiled a new version of Where2, the rental car company’s fully portable global positioning system and navigation device. The upgraded device, which is slim and can fit into a pocket, offers turn-by-turn directions in more than 40 languages and added services such as traffic alerts, weather reports, news updates, even movie listings provided by MSN Direct. Michael Caron, Avis’ vice president of product and program development, says customer demand continues to grow for GPS functionality in rental cars. Vacation.com, Hertz
Vacation.com has entered an exclusive partnership with Hertz and ended its preferred supplier arrangements with all other car rental companies, including Alamo, National, Auto Europe and Vanguard. The Hertz agreement allows for a greater marketshare shift by members in exchange for agency incentives, greater discounts, special coupons and member-exclusive quarterly promotions, Vacation.com said in a statement. Through the deal, Vacation.com members also can offer clients up to 20 percent savings on Hertz rentals, as well as other value adds like Sirius Satellite Radio or Hertz NeverLost navigation system. Consortia such as Vacation.com often come under scrutiny for having multiple preferred suppliers within a specific industry; Vacation.com is expected to establish more exclusive partnerships in the future.
