Liza loves Hugh – the Buzz – Hugh Jackman stars in The Boy From Oz – Brief Article – Interview
AUSTRALIAN HOTTIE Hugh Jackman will be making hearts and keyboards sizzle on Broadway when he takes the stage this October in The Boy From Oz, the musical based on the life of the late gay entertainer Peter Allen. Jackman describes the former Mr. Liza Minnelli as “very flamboyant, shall we say, our Peter. Famous for his Hawaiian shirts, gold tap-dancing shoes, jumping on top of the piano, making out with pretty much anyone and everyone.”
As for the current Mrs. Gest, Jackman reveals, “I met her backstage at the Beacon when she did her show, and she was very sweet and seems to be excited about it because she loves Peter and they had a great relationship.” Jackman is thrilled to be bringing Boy, already a huge hit in its native Austalia, to New York, “playing a character who I have a huge, huge admiration for. I’m probably more excited about that than I’ve been in a while.”
On the downside, says Jackman: “I keep imagining these Wolverine [Jackman’s X-Men character] fans coming to opening night and going, ‘Don’t do it, don’t kiss this guy, this is bullshit!'”
