Assault on a sailor
In a scene that mirrors many attacks in the United States in the past decade, an openly gay British sailor was beaten and left for dead in Plymouth, England, in early September. Richard Young, the first gay sailor to be reinstated after the United Kingdom lifted it’s ban on gay service members earlier this year, had his skull, jaw, and eye sockets fractured after being attacked by two men. Doctors said Young could have died if a friend had not kept him conscious after the assault. Two men were arrested in connection with the attack.
