Cricket: A Barmy rip-off
Jonathan Pearce
THE ICCB must act now to prevent the extortionate rip-off of the Barmy Army at the Ashes series next winter. It’s a rip-off that the expected 40,000 England cricket fans will have to pay more than pounds 1,200 for tickets for the entire series, far more than Aussie supporters. The Army doesn’t want fancy corporate entertainment. They simply want parity with home fans and the chance to sing and roar from the Gabba stands. But, then, isn’t that what the Aussies fear? Fair dinkum this isn’t!
I’M glad the bilious fuss has died down over Ron Atkinson’s (below) proposed return to TV. Some suggestions that he should never again be allowed a role in football are ridiculous. He made an unforgivable remark about Marcel Desailly and paid the penalty. He lost the best TV job he’ll ever have. He deserves another c hance.
