N. Korean TV shows Kim Jong Il at summit in still pictures

SEOUL, June 21 Kyodo

North Korean television used mostly still pictures to show North Korean leader Kim Jong Il at last week’s inter-Korean summit, according to a weekly report released by the South Korean Unification Ministry.

With the exception of Kim’s appearances at Pyongyang airport to greet and send off South Korean President Kim Dae Jung, all pictures showing Kim were stills, the ministry said.

North Koreans were not able to see or hear Kim Jong Il talking with the president, it said.

North Korean media, however, gave relatively detailed coverage of the summit, calling it “an important event in the process of achieving reunification.”
