Myers to start tour of Japan, S. Korea, Philippines this week
WASHINGTON, April 23 Kyodo
Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, will visit Japan, South Korea and the Philippines from Thursday through May 3, Defense Department officials said Tuesday.
During his stay in Japan on Sunday and Monday, Myers will hold talks with Japanese Defense Agency chief Gen Nakatani and visit a U.S. military base there, the officials said.
In the talks with Nakatani, Myers is expected to thank Japan for its logistical support in the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan and seek its continued cooperation.
Myers served as commander of the U.S. forces in Japan from November 1993 to June 1996.
