President’s Message

President’s Message

Gergich, Nicole

As the seasons change before us, the excitement of the fall season is taking hold. Exciting changes are also unfolding in the Oncology Section. We are undertaking initiatives to improve your Section and offer expanded services to you, our members. Thank you to all members who participated in our first ever member survey. We received survey responses from 27% of our membership. The results gave us a resounding echo of what you as a member are looking for in your section. It is my great pleasure to inform you of how these results are being examined and incorporated by the Board.

Overall, we were excited to find that the majority of you view your membership as a great value and have had positive experiences when dealing with the Section. Some common themes surfaced regarding recommended improvements to the Section. Among these were: an expanded and interactive website, expanded journal topics, formulation of a research network, and overall increase in member communications. Many of you took the time to offer ideas for specific topics of interest and emphasis to help us move forward. Thank you for letting your voice be heard!!!

By the time you are reading this journal issue, you will have likely received your first of many e-newsletters. We are beginning to offer this service to you to keep you abreast of the changes and happenings occurring in the section. This is but one of the ways we are opening the lines of communication to you our members! If you have not had a chance to check out our new website, please do so. Log on to www.oncologypt.org and see the new face of the Section. While the site is still under construction, we are working diligently to ensure that you have open lines of communication with the Section Board, and with other Section members.

You will find in this issue the open positions for our 2004 elections. This year we will elect a President-Elect, who will assume office at CSM 05 and serve as President from 2006-2008. We will elect a new Treasurer, who will assume office at CSM 05 for a 2-year term. We will also elect a new member of the Nominating Committee, who will serve a 3-year term. All of these people will play crucial roles in the continuing success and advancement of our section. A ballot will be mailed to you in January; I hope that you will choose to make your voice heard.

Thank you again for being active in voicing your ideas! I am so very excited about the changes taking place and am hoping to see our Section continue to grow and evolve as a resource to our members.
