Brother Ignatius Perkins, OP, DNSc, MA Ed, RN, Professor and Chair, School of Nursing, Dean, College of Health and Natural Sciences, Spalding University has been selected as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). This is the first time that a sitting faculty or chair of the School of Nursing at Spalding University has been selected as a FAAN. The formal induction will take place on Saturday, November 13, 2004 in Washington, DC.

KNA Board Member, Kathy Brotzge appointed to Mental Health Diversion Review Board.

Kathryn Brotzge, MSN, ARNP, KNA Board Member and Chair of the KNA Governmental Affairs Cabinet, has been appointed by Mayor Jerry Abramson, Mayor of Louisville Metro, to the Mental Health Diversion Review Board. The board consist of representatives from legal and mental health disciplines nominated by their respective professional organizations.

The Board typically supervises the court ordered treatment of clients. To be eligible for consideration, referrals must meet the federal definition for Serious and Persistent Mental Illness. Clients are typically charged with non-violent misdemeanor and felony offenses. Most participants have had minimal prior contact with the criminal justice system. The criminal charges must have been influenced by mental health issues. If they successfully complete the program, their criminal charges are dismissed without prejudice.
