How healthy is your apple juice?
Cloudy apple juice is four times healthier than the clear variety, according to research published in January in the Society of Chemical Industry’s Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture. Cloudy juice contains four times the concentration of polyphenols, which are chemicals found in plants that are widely reported to have anti-cancer properties. While retailers tend to favor clear apple juice because it has a longer shelf life than cloudy juice, the process of clarification removes beneficial compounds found within the apple pulp. Polyphenols are also found in dark chocolate, red wine, and red grapes, among other foods.
