First appearing on screen in 1918, Tarzan was the original Hollywood muscleman. Since then, there have been more than 40 films featuring the King of the Jungle. Now, with “The Tarzan Collection” ($59.92), a box set of four DVDs, you can own the first six seminal movies starring Olympic swimmer Johnny Weissmuller: Tarzan, the Ape Man (1932), Tarzan and his Mate (1934), Tarzan Escapes (1936), Tarzan Finds a Son! (1939), Tarzan’s Secret Treasure (1941) and Tarzan’s New York Adventure (1942). Extra features include a new documentary on Weissmuller, Tarzan short films and trailers. The collection’s release was timed to correspond with the 100th anniversary of Weissmuller’s birth (June 2, 1904). Also new on DVD are the Bo Derek and Miles O’Keeffe mostly nude romp Tarzan, the Ape Man (1981) and the faithful adaptation Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984), starring Christopher Lambert (each are $19.97).
