ST. LOUIS — Thomas Slagle–formerly president and chief executive officer of Medicine Shoppe International, a subsidiary of pharmaceutical distributor Cardinal Health–has left the drug chain and joined another Cardinal Health subsidiary. It was unclear at the time of this report what Cardinal subsidiary Slagle has joined. Mark Parrish, Cardinal Health’s executive vice president of retail sales and marketing, has replaced Slagle, according to a company spokeswoman.
BOISE, Idaho — Peter Lynch, Albertson’s president and chief operating officer, has been named to the company’s board. The election of Lynch, a 32-year supermarket and drug store veteran who came to Albertson’s via its merger with American Stores in late 1999, boosts the board to 13 members. “Albertson’s is at an important stage … as we embark on an aggressive restructuring plan to drive costs out of the business, while improving returns and building a strong growth momentum for the future,” said Paul Corrdry, the board’s lead independent director. “As the strong right arm of our chairman and chief executive officer, Larry Johnston, Peter is playing a crucial role in the company’s revitalization.”
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Brian Gallagher, formerly director of pharmacy regulatory affairs at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, has left NACDS to join TechRx, a provider of pharmacy management and prescription fulfillment software, as general counsel. In the new position, Gallagher will handle TechRx’s legal services and will head efforts to support pharmacy clients’ compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act standards for patient privacy and data security.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Jack Kramer, CVS’s senior vice president of government affairs and community relations, has been named citizen of the year by the Rhode Island March of Dimes. Kramer will receive the award Aug. 30 at a reception hosted by Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Almond at the Rhode Island Convention Center. The award ceremony sets the stage for the Best of Rhode Island Party to benefit the March of Dimes.
GREEN BAY, Wis. — The ShopKo division of ShopKo Stores has named Kevin Easton senior vice president and general merchandise manager of apparel. Easton reports to Gary Ramsey, president and chief operating officer of the ShopKo division. In addition to apparel, Easton will handle cosmetics at 141 ShopKo stores. Easton, who held several executive positions at Target Corp. from 1987 to 1999, most recently served as senior vice president of e-commerce, marketing and sales at Civisnet.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Kelley Gannon has left the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, some two months after joining the organization as vice president of media relations. Gannon, who reported to Susan Guiterman, senior vice president of communications and external affairs, joined NACDS in May after a 15-year career in corporate communications. At press time, no other details were available.
