Kroger to boost presence in Nebraska

CINCINNATI — The Kroger Co. announced late last month that it has reached a deal with No Frills Supermarkets to acquire, for an undisclosed amount, three Albertsons stores in the Omaha, Neb., area. The transaction is expected to close early next month.

The three units, which Albertsons previously had agreed to sell to No Frills, average about 57,600 square feet.

The stores will become part of Kroger’s Dillons division, operating, under the Baker’s banner.

The Dillons division currently has 112 stores in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska, primarily under the Dillons, Baker’s and Gerbes banners.

As previously reported in Drug Store News, Albertsons is exiting the Omaha area by selling or closing 21 stores. The move is part of Albertsons ongoing strategy to pull out of markets where it sees no near-term path to a leadership position.
