Make a Difference – Emergency Response Nurse Volunteers
The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) is seeking nurses licensed to practice in Alabama who are willing to volunteer their services should a bioterrorist event or other public health emergency occur. In the event of a catastrophic emergency, local supplies of drugs and medical equipment could be diminished rapidly. The federal government would rapidly send needed pharmaceuticals and supplies from the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) to support systems of care and volunteer efforts.
Nurse volunteers might also be called upon to serve in a variety of other capacities during natural or man-made public health emergencies within the state.
We will provide free emergency preparedness training for which you will receive continuing education contact hours.
Several training dates have already been scheduled specifically for the SNS. Opportunities for training on deployment of the Strategic National Stockpile are as follows:
1. Sunday, March 21, 2004
2. Sunday, April 18, 2004
Montgomery Civic Center
3. Sunday, May 2, 2004
Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center
Each session is scheduled from 1-5 p.m.. There will be additional training opportunities for nurse volunteers throughout the year.
