Phoenix Vineyards 1997 Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Phoenix Vineyards 1997 Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon ($37)–We found this wine stashed away in the back of our cellar and decided to liberate it. Sure glad we did! This is the debut Estate Cab from Phoenix (the winery has only 3.6 vineyard acres devoted to the varietal) and it’s a good one. A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Cabernet franc, the wine is unfined and unfiltered. The nose was a little hot, but the flavor was all fruit with loads of raspberry, plum and spice. As one staffer said, “It’s a great special occasion wine for poor people like us.” The sad part is that the wine is sold out. Where’s the ’99 version? Case production: 520.
