Brancott Vineyards – Chardonnay from New Zealand winery – Brief Article

Philip E. Hiaring

On the last Friday in March, the staff tasted Brancott Vineyards 2000 Chardonnay, and guessed the suggested retail would be from $8 to $13. Well, it’s $10. Unfortunately, the wine smelled and tasted more like a Sauvignon blanc than a Chardonnay. Did the bottling crew screw up? Or is that typical of very young Chardonnay that hasn’t been beaten into submission with oak? It’s a fruity rascal, though, have to give ’em that. Seagram is/was the importer, and we wonder if importation and marketing of this estate has been sold off, or will be. We won’t particularly miss Seagram in the wine industry.
