Balbi Vineyard Malbec/Syrah – wine from Mendoza region, Argentina – Brief Article – Statistical Data Included
Philip E. Hiaring
Remember “don’t cry for me, Argentina?” Well, 1998 Balbi Vineyard Malbec/Syrah from the Mendoza region might make some American growers and winemakers cry. Why? It’s about $7 and is national, 12,000 cases. It’s pungent on the nose and is medium-bodied. This translates to easy drinking with oh, pizza and grilled meats. Beef is big in Argentina, of course. Also, have read a report that indicates at least some of Argentina’s red wines from this vintage are going to be top-notch. Malbec is a major cultivar there. Tasted 3/00.
