Broder Bros. buys Gulf Coast – Wearables Wire – Brief Article
PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Broder Bros., the industry’s largest wholesaler of imprintable sportswear, announced in late December its acquisition of Gulf Coast Sportswear, a wholesale supplier based in Clute, Texas.
This purchase was Broder Bros.’ third such acquisition in a little more than a year and a quarter. The company purchased St. Louis T’s in September. 2000, and then added Full Line Distributors to its distribution network just last July. A Broder Bros. official said Gulf Coat has a strong regional presence in the southern half of the country with distribution points in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, and Kansas City, Kan.
“We are extremely pleased with this acquisition and how it will strengthen our position in these key markets,” said Vince Tyra, CEO of Broder Bros. “We continue to target cities that fit into our long-range plan and Gulf Coast offered us the opportunity to grow our share in markets we currently service.”
“I fully believe in the overall strategy of Broder Bros. as it relates to the industry and felt this was the proper timing for our businesses to become one,” said Tom McKnight, president of Gulf Coast Sportswear. Broder’s additional product lines and customer service should serve our customers well in the future.”
The integration of the two companies should be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2002, officials said. This process will include consolidating the locations of Gulf Coast into Broder Bros.’ in their respective markets. Details and schedules of the process will be shared with customers, employees, and suppliers over the coming weeks.
