Fruit with your bagel? – Product Announcement – Brief Article

Lynn Dornblaser

Lender’s Bagel Bakery, West Haven, Conn., has made the healthful bagel even better. The company’s new line, Lender’s Healthy Grain Bagels, comprises four varieties, each with fruit added. The varieties are Cranberry Raisin, Multigrain, Peach Raisin, and Raisin Bran.

The new bagels are in test in four-packs in Cincinnati, Denver, and Baltimore/Washington, D.C. “Nutrition is the watchword of the ’90s, and some people don’t realize bagels are nutritious,” says Mariann Feldmann, vice president of marketing.

Lender’s spokesperson and former owner Murray Lender appears in television commercials touting the healthfulness of bagels, suggesting that they are a good source of fiber (better than some breakfast cereals).
