Minneapolis, Bloomington approve no-smoking laws
MINNEAPOLIS — The City Council, on a 12-1 vote, approved a ban on smoking in bars, restaurants, pool halls and bowling alleys beginning next March 31, marking the second such municipal prohibition recently in the Twin Cities area.
The council’s Smoke Free Task Force said the law allows “sufficient time” to implement a publiceducation program and gives local businesses time to create lnarketing strategies “to adjust” to the new smoke-free environment.
The Minneapolis decision followed a 6-to-1 vote July 19 by the Bloolnington, Minn., City Council to ban smoking in all workplaces and public buildings in that city.
The St. Paul City Council was slated to vote July 28 on a workplace smoking ban.
