McD starts $26M plaza project on Mass. Turnpike
CHARLTON, MASS. — Groundbreaking began here on the first of 11 Massachusetts Turnpike travel plazas being renovated by the turnpike authority and McDonald’s, which reportedly will spend $26 million on the project.
All 11 plazas, which will feature McDonald’s and Papa Gino’s restaurants, are expected to be refurbished by the end of the year. Under McDonald’s 25-year master contract to operate food concessions at the plazas, the chain also is bringing in the Dunkin Donuts, Boston Market and Ben & Jerry’s brands.
The plazas are expected to net approximately $10 million a year for the turnpike authority.
