ASHA ranks senior housing firms
Karen Halm
The American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA) recently released its annual ranking of the 50 largest owners and managers in U.S. senior housing. The report indicated the 25 largest senior housing owners increased their holdings by approximately 15 percent last year while the 25 leading managers enlarged their stake by seven percent. The top 50 companies were responsible for 364,355 units with a median portfolio size of 4,550 units. The ASHA 50 is based on a comprehensive survey of firms that own and operate market-rate senior housing including independent-living communities (both with and without assisted-living), continuing care retirement communities and assisted-living residences. The list excludes properties and units in stand-alone nursing facilities, single-family homes in retirement communities and federally subsidized elderly housing.
