Bordeaux opens innovative LRT – Transit News

THE first 25km phase of light rail network in Bordeaux, southwest France, opened on December 21 in the presence of the French president, Mr Jacques Chirac, and the mayor of Bordeaux, Mr Alain Juppe, a former French prime minister.

More than 10km of the line running through historically and architecturally sensitive areas is equipped with Innorail, an innovative ground power supply that dispenses with the need for conventional catenary (IRJ July 2003 p26). About 5km of the 18.7km second phase will also be equipped with Innorail. Alstom is supplying a fleet of 70 Citadis LRVs. The phase one contract was won by a consortium of Atstore, Spie Euertrans and Cogifer.
