The Philips ICODE EPC 13.56MHz RFID chip – Tech Notables
The Philips ICODE EPC 13.56MHz RFID chip, based on the Auto-ID Center’s 96-bit Electronic Product Code (EPC) specification, includes a password-protected “kill” feature so that the tags can be turned off. According to Dirk Morgenroth, segment marketing manager at Philips Semiconductors Gratkorn GmbH, the company is also working on a UHF EPC tag based on the upcoming Class 1.2 standard. The ICODE EPC is currently available to vendors in sample quantities, with volumes available by the end of 2003. www.semiconductors.philips.com
