Rugged computers enhanced with Bluetooth technology: – Bluetooth
HHP Inc., Psion Teklogix Inc., and Symbol Technologies Inc. are all incorporating Bluetooth functionality into their rugged data collection computer products.
Bluetooth is a short-range, 2.4GHz wireless standard for communication among mobile devices and between desktop computers and mobile devices.
HHP will use Socket Communications Inc.’s KwikBlue modules in its Dolphin 9500 and 9550 Pocket PC-based devices. The Dolphin units also include wireless LAN and GSM/GPRS wide-area wireless capabilities.
Symbol will also use Socket Bluetooth modules in its PPT 8800 computers. Symbol will embed Socket’s CompactFlash Card with Bluetooth directly into the computers.
Psion Teklogix, on the other hand, has teamed with Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. to add Bluetooth to its computers. Toshiba’s Bluetooth SDIO card will be integrated into Psion Teklogix’s newest 7535 terminal, allowing it to connect to remote printers, cell phones and other devices. FS
