PepsiAmericas rolls out wireless sales application – Wireless

PepsiAmericas Inc. has deployed a wireless field sales application from Thinque Systems Corp., Los Angeles, to automate its pre-sales process. To date, 150 of the Rolling Meadows, III.-based bottler’s 1,000 account sales managers (ASMs)have been equipped with the Thinque MSP Pre-sales Module running on Symbol Technologies’ Pocket PC devices.

Using Symbol PDT 8000 hand-held computers, each account salesperson downloads the latest information about their route to the Thinque software on the hand held to ensure that they have the most current product, pricing and route information prior to departure.

Salespeople will use the Symbol devices to take orders at customer locations. Thinque MSP enables the two-way electronic transfer of enterprise data to and from the field.

Thinque MSP generates pre-populated or suggested order forms that can reduce the time it takes to complete an order. While the ASM is calling on a customer, the suggested order quantity based on sales history will appear on the hand held’s screen as part of the order guide process.

After the order has been completed at the customer’s site, it is wirelessly transmitted and uploaded into the PepsiAmericas central order and routing system to be scheduled for next day product delivery.

Initiated in 2002 as a joint project, PepsiAmericas worked with Thinque Systems’ engineering department to determine the specific application requirements and final features of the mobile sales tool.

PepsiAmericas, Inc., with $3.2 billion in revenue, is the second largest Pepsi-Cola anchor bottler with operations in 18 states and nine countries.
